The goal of this course is to develop an understanding of the basic pathological processes of the central nervous system. It will enable students to recognize and interpret evidence of gross and microscopic changes to develop during a pathological process of the CNS. The course will also provide an overview of important stains used in neuropathology to enhance the visualization of a pathological specimen. Although this course will provide an overview of ischemia, stroke, demyelinating diseases, degenerative and metabolic disorders, particular attention will be given to CNS infections and tumours.
